SANDRINE OJONG

Sandrine Ojong is a Cameroonian Data Science enthusiast, Project Manager and Community Leader.

I was nine the first time I watched a woman bury her dreams. It was my mother. She wanted to be a lawyer, to fight for those who had no voice. The day she gave up, something inside her dimmed. And with it, the future of another young African. I saw the same thing in my best friend. She wanted to be an astronaut. That dream never made it past the classroom. Our outdated education system strangled it before it had a chance to breathe. As I grew older, the truth became clear. I lived in a war-stricken community, where even stable schooling was a luxury. Opportunities were rare. Here, children were born already behind.
We learned early to make our dreams smaller just to survive. I, however, refused to shrink. Driven by a mission to help African youth realize their full potential, I began a journey to support underserved students. At Knowledge Center, Cameroon, I led initiatives reaching over 3,000 students—through school campaigns, mentorship, and programs that restored belief in their worth and future. At every turn, the message was clear: “Africa needs pioneers. STEM is the pathway.” Through the Tech Innovation Center, I empowered over 1,000 underserved students with tech and entrepreneurship skills via hackathons, competitions, and summits—encouraging them to become problem solvers and creators. This work earned national recognition for innovation and leadership from institutions across Cameroon.

At the heart of it all is one driving force:
To see young Africans rise.
To claim our place in STEM—not from the sidelines, but from the center.
To build a world where "Made in Kigali" stands equal to "Made in Silicon Valley"—because we made it so.
