IFENYA HUYSMAN

Ifenya Huysman is a Mechanical Engineer working at a fast-paced engineering consultancy, where he is regularly tasked with solving novel and challenging problems.

My role is inherently multidisciplinary — most projects require an understanding of not just mechanical systems but also electronics, software, and how all three interact under real-world constraints. I thrive in those overlaps, particularly when I’m able to bring something entirely new to the table.

Over the past three years, I’ve worked across a broad range of sectors including consumer products, robotics, lab automation, and MedTech. My proudest achievement so far has been conceiving and independently developing a novel mechatronic neurosurgical device — taking it from first idea through to a working prototype ready for in-vivo trials. That work, along with a second robotic surgical platform project, is now the subject of two pending patents.

To young people interested in engineering, I’d say this: the field is as broad and diverse as nature itself — and there is room for every kind of mind. Progress may seem small from the outside, but behind every real innovation is a deep well of unseen effort, frustration, and persistence. That’s part of the beauty of engineering: you get to build something that didn’t exist — and know what it really took to get it there.
